Retail Buyer

Position Summary

The Retail Buyer manages the purchasing and replenishment of assigned merchandise categories to maximize sales, margin, and inventory performance. The Retail Buyer analyzes retailer performance, identifies opportunities, and works closely with vendors and internal teams to ensure product assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies align with customer demand and overall company goals.

• Develops and maintains strategic merchandise plans for assigned categories to support financial goals and sales performance.
• Works with vendors to negotiate pricing, terms, product assortment, and promotional opportunities.
• Analyzes sales trends, inventory levels, and performance metrics to make data‑driven buying decisions.
• Plans and executes seasonal buys, allocation, and replenishment strategies.
• Collaborates with cross‑functional teams, including planning, allocation, marketing, and stores to ensure product availability and execution of merchandising initiatives.
• Monitors product performance and adjusts buy plans as needed to improve results and reduce excess inventory.
• Assists in developing product pricing strategies to optimize sales and profit margins.
• Evaluates vendor performance and builds strong supplier partnerships.
• Participates in product previews, vendor meetings, and industry events to identify new products and trends.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Minimum Degree
  
  Required:
  
  Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Merchandising, Marketing, or related field preferred.
• Experience:
  
  2‑4 years of retail buying, planning, merchandising, or analytical experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of retail metrics and inventory management principles.

• Advanced analytical, planning, and forecasting skills.
• Proficiency in Excel, financial reporting tools, and data analysis software.
• Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.

May include occasional vendor visits, trade shows, and industry events.

• Work performed in office environment requiring sitting, standing, and use of office equipment.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of merchandise samples.

Performs work independently, analyzes complex data, and makes recommendations that impact category performance, vendor partnerships, and strategic planning.
