Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Supports persons served as a mentor encouraging people to learn and practice skills needed to be successful in their home and community.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Providing support to persons served.
• Teaching each person served the skills needed to accomplish goals set in their Individual Service Plan (ISP).
• Documenting outcomes of ISP.
• Documenting facility safety practices, assessments, incident reports, and daily logs.
• Supporting persons served in development of connections/relationships in the community.
• Attending ISP meetings as requested.
• Attending monthly persons served Self Government meetings.
• Guiding persons served in making responsible choices.
• Transporting persons served as needed.
• Informing Program Coordinator of issues experienced by person served in ISP implementation.

Supervisory responsibilities include:

• None

Requirements:

Minimum qualifications include:

• High school diploma or equivalent education level.
• 18 years or older.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Blood Borne Pathogens, Medication Administration, Systematic Instruction Strategies, Abuse/Neglect, HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Positive Behavior training.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Class E driver's License.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Serv Safe Certification (if required).
• Ability to pass a 10-panel drug test.
• Ability to pass a background check including criminal record and driving record.
• Ability to perform each essential duty and responsibility.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Exceptional teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
• Preferred:
  Experience working with people with developmental disabilities.

Physical demands include:

• Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and walking.
• Regularly required to talk or hear.
• Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; this may be more with certain types of work assignments.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
