Direct Support Professional - Residential Services

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work with individuals who have developmental disabilities in the residential program. DSPs assist person served to become more integrated in their communities by maximizing individual strengths, interests, and abilities. The aim is for the person served to direct their own activities that create a meaningful life including contributing to the community and developing relationships. DSPs ensure that meaningful and person-centered services are provided to individuals participating in independent living services;

DSPs implement the services for each individual per service descriptions, rules, and regulations. DSPs will follow and implement all Individual Service Plans and provide daily documentation on services provided. DSPs will assist individuals as needed with all activities of daily living as outlined in their individual plan as well as grocery shopping, housekeeping, bookkeeping, etc., and provide opportunities for community activities and social interactions that are age-appropriate and of their choosing.

DSPs assist in scheduling, transportation, and communications with all ongoing medical appointments as needed as well as assist with medication management as needed.

• Listen carefully and communicate respectfully and clearly with the persons served that you support.
• Support individual choice, understanding, and learning new skills.
• Understand, follow-through, and document support plans, goals, activities, progress, etc.
• Support person served with daily living skills and individual support needs.
• Facilitate activities that provide person served with social capital and connections to the community.

• Know the proper techniques and be able to respond to emergencies such as accidents, fires, tornados, or other situations.
