Job Overview

The job location for this position is in Cochrane, Ontario. This is a full‑time permanent position with benefits. Rotations occur every 2 weeks between day and overnight shifts on 12‑hour schedules. A personal vehicle is required to commute to the work site.

This role performs fire assay techniques following written work instructions to determine various mineral and metal concentrations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform fire assay techniques such as fluxing, fusing, and cupping samples according to written procedures.
  • Carry out routine equipment maintenance under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Complete and maintain accurate, up‑to‑date work order documentation, fusion sheets, and logs.
  • Follow all quality system protocols and report discrepancies to supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean work environment, including proper disposal of crucibles, cupels, and fire‑assay lead wastes.
  • Organize and label waste disposal.
  • Must be comfortable working with ovens and in high‑temperature environments.
  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples and lab equipment.
  • Must work well with others and independently.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent mandatory.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant laboratory work experience preferred, or equivalent lab experience through education.
  • Must read, understand, and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Proficient in using common computer software (Word, Excel, CCLAS, Oracle, etc.).
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time‑management skills and attention to detail.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast‑paced, professional environment.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required.
  • Travel to other SGS or client locations may be required from time to time.
Additional Information

Compensation: $25 per hour

  • 80% coverage of Health, Dental and Vision
  • Paid time off
  • RRSP Program eligibility
