POSITION OVERVIEWThe General Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical care across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings. This role requires strong operative skills, sound clinical judgment, and a collaborative, patient-centered approach. The surgeon works closely with anesthesiology, CRNAs, APPs, perioperative teams, ED clinicians, hospitalists, and the Wound Clinic.
CLINICAL SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIESPerform a broad range of general surgical procedures, including:
Hernia repair
Cholecystectomy
Endoscopy
Appendectomy
Small bowel obstruction management
Colorectal surgery
Skin and soft tissue procedures
Wound Clinic: Evaluation and management of acute and chronic wounds within a multidisciplinary model
Provide surgical consultation for:
Palliative care
Pain management
End-of-life decision support
Educate patients and families on procedures and care plans
Review diagnostics and address abnormalities
Participate in departmental meetings, training, and ongoing professional development
Medical Group Specialties Include:
Internal & Family Medicine, OB/GYN, Cardiology, Neurology
Orthopaedics, Podiatry, Urology, General Surgery
Post-Acute Care and Centralized Scheduling
Support Team:
Physicians, PAs, NPs, CNMs
RNs, LPNs, Medical Assistants
Patient Service Representatives
Typical Hours: Generally 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (varies by practice)
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency
Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
Active Vermont medical license
Vermont DEA license
CPR for Healthcare Providers
Proficiency in modern surgical techniques and advancements
Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Detail-oriented with a focus on patient safety
Commitment to ongoing professional development
Base Salary Range: $285,000 - $320,000
Determined based on experience, education, internal equity, and market factors
Provided in compliance with Vermont Act 155
Additional Compensation:
Productivity-based monetary incentives available
OSHA Category I (exposure to blood/body fluids)
Mix of standing, walking, and sitting throughout the day
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
Requires close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
Typical noise levels range from quiet to moderate
