Overview
The General Surgeon will be responsible for delivering comprehensive surgical care across diverse settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency departments.
The position encompasses a range of common general surgical interventions, such as:
- Hernia repairs
- Cholecystectomies
- Endoscopic procedures
- Appendectomies
- Management of small bowel obstructions
- Colorectal surgeries
- Skin and soft tissue surgeries
The surgeon will also be actively involved in the evaluation and management of acute and chronic wounds as part of a multidisciplinary Wound Clinic.
A key aspect of this role is providing expert diagnosis, treatment, and management of various surgical conditions while exercising advanced operative skills and clinical judgment.

- Perioperative and peri-anesthesia teams
- Emergency Department providers
- Hospitalists
- Wound Clinic personnel
The surgeon will be tasked with educating patients and their families on:
- Surgical procedures and respective risks/benefits
Post-operative care plans
Clinical responsibilitiesAn important responsibility includes reviewing diagnostic test results and addressing any abnormalities. The surgeon will also provide surgical input in areas such as palliative care, pain management, and end-of-life decision-making.
Participation in departmental meetings and engagement in ongoing professional development and training is expected.
ComplianceAdditionally, compliance with OSHA Category I standards, specifically regarding blood borne pathogen precautions, is mandatory. Please note that this position is not open to candidates who commute more than one hour.
Qualifications- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
- Completion of a General Surgery Residency Program
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical institution
- Active Vermont Medical License
- DEA registration (must be obtained prior to start)
- CPR certification for Healthcare Providers
- Proficiency in advanced surgical techniques and procedures
- Clean malpractice history
- Recent NPDB Self Query Report (within the last 30 days)
- Board Certification (or eligibility)
- CPR Certification
- DEA Registration
- Valid Vermont Medical License
Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution and completion of an accredited General Surgery Residency Program are mandatory.
