Position:  Locum Tenens General Surgeon (General Surgery, Trauma Level
3)

Setting:  Hospital-based with office/clinic duties

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Call Ratio:  1:4

Duration:  13-week locum tenens assignment (June 1, 2026 – August 31, 2026)

Hours per Week:  40

EMR:  Cerner

Operating Rooms:  3 + Procedure Room

Team:  2 General Surgeons + new clinician, CRNA, scrub techs, circulating nurses

Patient Demographics:  Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric

Job Requirements / Qualifications

Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery (MD or DO)

Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency program

Active Vermont Medical License (or in-process with start-date aligned)

DEA registration (must be obtained prior to start)

CPR for Healthcare Providers (BLS)

Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in general surgery or equivalent

Proficiency in common general surgery and laparoscopic techniques

Clean malpractice history and recent NPDB self-query (within 30 days active)

Responsibilities

Perform general surgical cases including chest wall/pleural procedures, chest tube placement, abdominal vascular cases, laparoscopic surgery (cholecystectomy, hernia repair), and GI endoscopy (upper endoscopy, colonoscopy)

Deliver comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, and wound care services

Participate in a 1:4 call rotation for ED and inpatient coverage

Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary surgical team members including CRNAs, scrub techs, and circulating nurses

Document clinical care thoroughly in Cerner EMR and follow hospital protocols

Provide high-quality, patient-centered care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations

For pediatric-trained surgeons (if applicable): perform pediatric procedures such as umbilical defect repair, omphalocele, hernia, and imperforate anus repair
