The Winston Prouty Center for Child and Family Development (WPC) is the regional hub for inclusive and responsive family support in southeastern Vermont. WPC’s programs include early intervention services, home-visiting nursing for prenatal and postpartum care, parenting support, early childhood and family mental health care, housing services, supervised visitation services, child care referral and financial assistance services, a high-quality Early Learning Center, and mobile literacy enrichment through the Early Learning Express Bookmobile.

The organization owns and operates a 184 campus property that is the home to over 40 mission drive organizations and businesses and shares its walking trails, sports field and event/meeting spaces with community.

Job Summary

The Development Director is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies to ensure long-term sustainability of the organization. The role requires both strategic visioning and hands-on execution. The Development Director will engage staff and board to establish philanthropy as an organizational priority and communicate the Center’s impact to stakeholders and the community.

General Responsibilities

  • Oversee annual calendar of fundraising activities including in-person events, annual fund appeals, and corporate sponsor ships
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, businesses and community partners
  • Manage donor database, ensuring accuracy of constituent records and timely gift entry/acknowledgement
  • Supervise one Development Assistant, including delegating tasks, helping to manage time, giving feedback, and dedicating time for check-ins on a weekly, monthly, and semi-annual basis
  • Collaborate on strategic marketing and communication plans to promote events and raise awareness about programs
  • Manage budgets for fundraising activities while tracking progress toward goals
  • Bolster the Center’s major giving and planned giving programs
  • Identify grant opportunities, prepare and submit proposals and reports, and track deadlines
  • Collaborate on capital campaigns as needed

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience leading successful fundraising programs
  • Demonstrated success in event planning and project management
  • Familiarity with budgeting processes, data collection techniques, and donor management systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and event management skills
  • Knowledge of planned giving programs and major gift solicitation strategies strongly preferred
  • Experience leading a small team

Educational Development

  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Attend professional development opportunities such as workshops, conferences, courses, and other educational activities (some in evening or weekend hours) to improve skills and update knowledge of current professional practices.
  • Fulfill a minimum of 15 hours of professional development per year.
