Job Title: Staff Registered Nurse – Operating Room (Per Diem, Part‑time)

Location: Brattleboro, Vermont

Job Type: Per Diem, Part‑time

Hours: 7:00‑3:30, days of week; call schedule optional

FLSA Status: Non‑exempt

Position Summary

The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) is a vital member of the perioperative team, collaborating with anesthesiologists, surgeons, surgical technologists, and other interdisciplinary personnel to ensure safe, high‑quality surgical care. The RN provides expert pre‑, intra‑, and post‑operative nursing care and serves as the patient’s advocate when the patient cannot speak or protect themselves.

The RN is responsible for comprehensive nursing practice, including assessment, diagnosis, patient‑centered goal setting, and plan of care implementation and evaluation. The RN prescribes and delegates nursing interventions, supervises others as appropriate, and ensures a safe environment supporting optimal patient outcomes. Patient and family education and collaboration with the entire health‑care team are also required.

The RN is expected to competently perform both circulating and scrub responsibilities. The department offers endoscopy, obstetrics & gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, podiatry, urology, and general surgery service lines.

Responsibilities

Perform pre‑operative assessment and care; assist with intra‑operative procedures; monitor patients in postoperative recovery; coordinate with anesthesia and surgical teams; educate patients and families; maintain sterile technique; document patient care appropriately; supervise or delegate tasks; comply with all safety and infection control protocols.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an RN accredited program, BSN preferred.
  • Recent operating room experience preferred.
  • Circulator/Scrub training preferred.
  • CNOR certification preferred.
  • Registered Nurse, licensed in Vermont.
  • Current BLS healthcare provider status.

Compensation Disclosure (Vermont Act 155)

In compliance with Vermont Act 155, the compensation range for this position is $39.15–$68.16 per hour, based on relevant experience and education. Final compensation will be determined during the hiring process.
