Description

To assist in overseeing the strategic planning, scheduling, and execution of preventive maintenance, store safety protocols, asset protection, and related facility programs. This role ensures an open, inclusive, and safe marketplace by minimizing operational disruptions, mitigating workplace hazards, and driving cross‑functional collaboration across all Co‑op departments.

Core Performance Standards Customer Service

Assists internal and external customers, vendors, and contractors in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.

Responds to maintenance and security requests swiftly, minimizing disruptions to active retail store operations.

Maintains a welcoming, compassionate, and respectful presence on the retail floor, setting a positive example for shareholder and community relations.

Safety & Asset Protection

Adheres strictly to OSHA standards and ensures correct utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Maintains a highly proactive approach to hazard identification and risk mitigation, conducting continuous facility sweeps to keep walking and working surfaces clear.

Safely diffuses potentially volatile or sensitive situations involving staff, shoppers, or vulnerable populations with empathy, grounded authority, and clear de‑escalation tactics.

Accountability

Ensures that all maintenance operations, incident files, and safety logs are meticulously documented, updated, and closed out on time.

Maintains strict confidentiality regarding sensitive store security data, video footage, and legal or personnel incidents.

Job‑Specific Functions Maintenance Scheduling & Coordination

Develop, deploy, and manage predictive and preventive maintenance schedules for all store equipment, facility assets, and underlying subcomponents.

Prioritize incoming facilities work orders by weighting asset criticality, physical retail impact, and available labor/resource bandwidth.

Maintain, monitor, and optimize the Co‑op’s central Maintenance Management System to track completion rates and historical asset repairs.

Project Management

Assist in planning and execute targeted maintenance projects, and facility process improvements.

Define comprehensive project parameters, concrete timelines, and material or resource requirements prior to execution.

Monitor ongoing projects and deadlines and preserve continuous store operations.

Surveillance & Emergency First Response

Conduct routine, structured tours of the retail sales floor, stockrooms, parking lot, and exterior perimeters to evaluate general facilities conditioning and customer safety.

Enforce organizational Loss Prevention policies; monitor, deter, and systematically address active retail theft or known no‑trespass violations.

Routinely review security camera footage and preserve definitive video evidence to assist leadership or legal investigators.

Serve as the store’s primary on‑site first responder during emergency incidents, managing the scene under pressure until relieved by senior management or emergency medical services.

Qualifications Required

High school diploma or equivalent certificate.

Proven experience in maintenance coordination, project scheduling, facilities planning, or a relevant security/public safety field.

Exceptional organizational, time management, and multi‑tasking capabilities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate assertively yet empathetically in stressful situations.

Strong computer literacy, specifically with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) and project management systems (such as Asana).

Requirements Physical & Operational Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for the duration of an 8‑hour shift.

Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Willingness to maintain a flexible operational schedule, including essential weekend, evening, or on‑call shifts to support emergencies and security alarms.

Preferred Training (Or willingness to secure upon hire)

OSHA 10‑Hour General Industry Certification.

Certified First Aid / CPR / AED Training.

Crisis De‑escalation or Mental Health First Aid training.
