RN - OB Department

Description

Assisting obstetricians and midwives during delivery. Providing care for women in labor through pain management, coaching and ongoing fetal monitoring. Assessing and monitoring newborn health after delivery, including measuring vital signs and performing routine assessments.

• Does initial and continuous assessment.
• Obtains prenatal records.
• Interprets and reads the fetal monitor.
• Monitors contractions.
• Assesses patient and fetal vital signs.
• Administers medication.
• Identifies complications during labor and delivery.
• Communicates the mom’s condition and needs to the Physician.
• Coaches mom during labor and delivery.
• Cares for the mom and infant throughout labor, birth, and immediate postpartum phase.
• Provides emotional support.
• Circulates C-Section and recovers them.
• Checks patient's cervix periodically to monitor progression /lack of dilation.
• Cares for patient on Pitocin, MgSO4 and continues lumbar epidural.
• Recovers vaginal delivery.

• Assumes responsibility for both mother and baby.
• Monitors vital signs of mom and baby.
• Performs routine tests for baby.
• Assesses for any signs or symptoms that indicate complications of childbirth.
• Communicates with physician and pediatrician regarding mom and baby.
• Takes care of postpartum readmission, postoperative GYN.
• Recovers C-Section or vaginal delivery patients.

• Must have current RN licensure in the State of California.
• Current AHA BLS required upon hire. ACLS, NRP and PALS certification as required by Department.

Education Required:

Associates degree in nursing required, BSN preferred.

Experience Preferred: 1 year Labor & Delivery, OB, Couplet Care Experience, strongly preferred.
