Your Future Position

Kpler’s Oil & Chemicals business unit is looking for a Crude Oil Market Analyst with a strong data and market analysis background. In this role, you will own, validate, and scale the core crude oil dataset for the booming Latin American market. This is a highly impactful, hybrid position: you will be the guardian of our regional data integrity, ensuring Kpler has the most accurate crude oil tracking repository.

You will spend your time balanced between hands‑on data manipulation and real‑time market reporting. This role sits right at the intersection of data and insights—you will monitor live terminal data, vessel movements, and refinery activity across the LATAM market. Collaborating closely with Data Ops, Product Engineering, and Commercial teams, you will turn complex datasets into fast, factual market updates (“Pulses”) that power the decision‑making of the world’s top commodity traders and oil majors.

Your

Mission Is To:
  • Monitor and validate crude oil data daily (flows, inventories, refinery activity) to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Analyse cargo movements, supply/demand dynamics, and freight trends across the Americas
  • Identify anomalies, gaps, and inconsistencies in datasets and resolve or elevate as needed
  • Support the production of quick market insights, commentary, and ad hoc analysis
  • Work with large, complex datasets to extract trends and actionable insights
  • Maintain and enhance datasets related to crude oil markets
  • Contribute to data quality improvements and workflow enhancements
  • Collaborate with Data, Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Success teams
  • Support client queries, presentations, and product demonstrations where needed
  • Respond to internal and external data requests in a timely manner
  • Manage KPIs and OKRs, provide insights for improvement, and support product development
Experience & Background Essential:
  • Experience in crude oil or petroleum market analysis, with a strong understanding of trade flows, supply/demand balances, freight, and refining basics
  • Understanding of Latin American crude markets, with knowledge of regional asset dynamics
  • Proficiency in SQL and Excel
  • Experience working with large or complex datasets
  • Fluent in English, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (written and spoken)
Desirable:
  • Python – highly regarded
  • Familiarity with geospatial / vessel tracking data
  • Experience engaging with clients or supporting commercial teams
  • Experience contributing to product or data improvement initiatives
Behavioural

Competencies:
  • Strong data validation and validation skill with ability to investigate and troubleshoot data issues
  • Ability to seamlessly connect granular data points with broad global market context and vice versa
  • Ownership of day‑to‑day work and accountability for output
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Collaborative and team‑oriented
  • Proactive in identifying issues and suggesting improvements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Energy, or related field. Graduate degree is a plus but not required.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Research shows that women and people of color are less likely than others to apply if they feel like they don’t match 100% of the job requirements. Don’t let the confidence gap stand in your way, we’d love to hear from you! We understand that experience comes in many different forms and we are dedicated to adding new perspectives to the team.

Kpler is committed to providing a fair, inclusive and diverse work‑environment. We believe that different perspectives lead to better ideas, and better ideas allow us to better understand the needs and interests of our diverse, global community.
