Job Description And Duties

As an Associate Industrial Hygienist you will have the opportunity to:

  • Conduct and participate in difficult and comprehensive occupational safety and health worksite audits and site visits to verify public and occupational safety and health consensus industry standards are maintained.
  • Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, analyze, and adopt an appropriate course of action for occupational safety and health hazards.
  • Review and provide guidance on hazard appraisal and recognition plans using the safety analysis technique of anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control.
  • Prepare, calibrate, and maintain all industrial hygiene and field equipment (e.g. combustible gas indicators, flame and photoionization detectors, noise dosimeters, particulate monitors, and ionizing radiation detectors).
  • Investigate occupational safety and health complaints associated with industrial, construction, electrical, hazardous waste, and other occupational safety and health-related disciplines at DTSC Sites.
  • Participate in inspections of DTSC infrastructure and field visits (e.g. search warrants, inspection warrants, periodic and scheduled inspections) focusing on occupational safety and health hazards.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete work in a timely manner utilizing time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to apply principles, practices and methods used in the elimination of hazards associated with chemical and physical exposures and anticipate such exposures for elimination.
  • Ability to apply methods and techniques used in safety inspections, accident investigation/inspections, accident prevention, consultation, training, and technical report writing.
  • Ability to identify occupational safety and health hazards and unsafe working conditions and practices in the construction, electrical, and industrial disciplines.
Special Requirements
  • The position requires a valid California Drivers License (CDL). Applicants must provide CDL details on application.
