Police Officer - Lateral

Overview

The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future Police Officer vacancies.

Base Salary: 99,501. not including eligible additional compensation with bilingual pay, special assignment pay, and up to twelve-point five (12.5) percent for POST certificate.

To perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs; to perform a variety of technical law enforcement tasks.

Police Officer

General supervision is provided by a Police Sergeant. Technical or functional supervision may be provided by other police personnel. Assignments may require direct or indirect supervision of sworn and non-sworn personnel.

• Completion of high school or its equivalent.
• Current certification of completion of a P.O.S.T. regular basic course from a State of California P.O.S.T. approved Police Academy.
• Possession of a valid Driver s License issued from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
• No felony convictions, or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude.

In addition to the minimum qualifications,

• Must have current valid State of California P.O.S.T. Basic Certification or Basic Course Waiver.
• Successful completion of probation at a P.O.S.T. recognized agency.

• Make arrests as necessary; interview victims, complainants and witnesses; interrogate suspects; gather and preserve evidence; testify and present evidence in court.
• Contact and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to the apprehension of offenders and the investigation of offenses.
• Prepare reports of arrests made, activities performed, and unusual incidents observed.
• Stop drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of laws; warn drivers against unlawful practices; issue citations and make arrests as necessary.
• Direct traffic at fire, special events, and other emergency or congested situations.
• Maintain contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserve good relationships with the general public.

Phase One - Application Review:
The first phase of the selection process shall be a detailed review and appraisal of each candidate’s application. Those candidates determined to be most qualified on the basis of education and experience, as submitted, may be invited to participate in the next phase of the selection process. No weight shall be assigned to this phase of the selection process. Applicants must attach a copy of a valid California Basic P.O.S.T certificate.

Phase Two - Oral Appraisal Interview:
Candidates who receive a minimum score of 70% on this phase shall move to the next phase of the selection process.
