Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for conducting routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and calibration to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment. This role will focus on servicing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) machines used in PCB assembly, while also handling general facility repairs including plumbing, electrical, and basic building maintenance. In addition, the technician will be responsible for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of HAZMAT waste generated during manufacturing operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Service and maintain SMT machines: perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure optimal performance of PCB assembly equipment.
- Repair malfunctioning equipment units and broken structures: diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, and facility-related issues.
- Install machinery systems: assist with setup, calibration, and integration of new SMT and production equipment.
- Perform electrical systems maintenance: handle wiring, circuit troubleshooting, and minor electrical repairs.
- Conduct plumbing and facility repairs: address leaks, fixtures, and basic building infrastructure needs.
- Quality check equipment regularly: ensure SMT machines and facility systems are in proper working order.
- Create inspection and repair schedules: develop and maintain preventative maintenance plans for SMT equipment and facility systems.
- Select and contract specialists: coordinate with outside vendors for larger or specialized maintenance projects.
- Act as handyman when needed: provide immediate support for urgent facility or equipment issues.
- Handle HAZMAT waste: safely manage hazardous materials, including collection, labeling, storage, and disposal in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulations.
- Follow all OSHA, EPA, and local safety regulations related to hazardous materials and facility maintenance.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, goggles, respirators, and protective clothing when handling chemicals or HAZMAT waste.
- Maintain accurate records of HAZMAT waste handling, storage, and disposal.
- Participate in regular safety training and emergency response drills.
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents promptly to management.
- Support continuous improvement of workplace safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, instructions, operation manuals, and safety rules.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with production staff, engineers, and management.
- Ability to prepare and understand basic reports related to maintenance activities.
- Communicate effectively with outside suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
- Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required; certificate or degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience servicing SMT machines or other electronics manufacturing equipment is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of facility equipment units, their usage, and safety procedures.
- Experience handling HAZMAT waste or hazardous materials preferred.
- Language Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Effective interpersonal skills for internal and external collaboration.
- Technical Skills Technical knowledge of SMT machinery, electronics manufacturing equipment, and facility systems.
- Basic computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel).
- Knowledge of OSHA/EPA regulations related to hazardous materials handling.
- Reasoning Ability Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to plan and execute workload independently.
- Ability to interpret procedures, instructions, safety rules, and reports.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Completion of an apprenticeship under a professional maintenance technician is a plus.
- SMT equipment training or certification preferred.
- HAZMAT handling certification or training strongly preferred.

- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
