Senior Lifeguard​/Instructor

This position requires First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard Training, WSI, and Title 22 certifications. The trainings for these certifications are currently scheduled to take place on weekends in May 2026. If hired, I understand I must attend the offered trainings.

The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be utilized for future Senior Lifeguard/Instructor vacancies.

To supervise and control activities of swimmers; to supervise aquatics staff and volunteers; enforce swimming pool rules and regulations; rescue and administer first aid treatment to children and adults in distress; teach all levels of instructional swim programs.

Supervision is provided by higher level Community Services personnel.

May supervise subordinate staff and volunteers as needed.

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following: (These functions may not be present in all positions in this classification. • Teach all levels of instructional swim program.
• Patrol swimming pool areas, correct unsafe practices, assist swimmers in distress.
• Enforce swimming pool rules and regulations regarding conduct of patrons.
• Perform CPR and other first aid treatment as required.
• May supervise subordinate staff and volunteers.
• Perform related duties, as assigned.

To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities, and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position.

A typical combination is:

Two summers of part‑time lifeguard and swim instruction experience.

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

• Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or equivalent.
• Valid American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
• Valid American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) or equivalent.
• Bloodborne Pathogens Certification.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certificate or equivalent.

Employees must possess all required certifications by start of summer Aquatics program.

All certifications must be maintained throughout employment in order to remain in the position.
