Job Summary
To monitor and control activities of swimmers; enforce swimming pool rules and regulations; rescue and administer first‑aid treatment to children and adults in distress; teach all levels of instructional swim programs.
Essential Job Functions- Teach all levels of instructional swim program.
- Patrol swimming pool areas, correct unsafe practices, and assist swimmers in distress.
- Perform CPR and other first‑aid treatment as required.
- Assist in record keeping and collection of fees.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Supervision is received from higher‑level Community Services personnel. No supervision is exercised.
QualificationsFirst Aid, CPR, Lifeguard Training, and WSI certifications are required. Trainings for these certifications are scheduled to take place on weekends in May 2026. Candidates must attend the offered training if hired.
Experience and Education- Minimum of 16 years of age with some high school completed.
- Some public contact experience is desired.
- Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or equivalent.
- Valid American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
- Valid American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) or equivalent.
- Bloodborne Pathogens Certification.
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certificate or equivalent.
- All certifications must be obtained before the start of the summer Aquatics program and maintained throughout employment.

The selection process consists of two phases:
Phase One – Application Review;
Phase Two – Oral Appraisal Interview. Candidates scoring at least 70% on the second phase are placed on an eligibility list valid for one year.
Background check, medical examination, proof of legal work status, fingerprinting, and criminal history check are required. Background review and medical exam are part of the contingent offer process.
