Position: Social Studies Teacher (Grades 9-12)

Social Studies Teacher (Grades 9‑12) – St. Martin Parish Schools District Office.

Job Overview

This position is a Regular Education Teacher at the high‑school level, reporting to the Principal. The teacher will design and deliver curriculum aligned with Louisiana Student Standards, manage classroom operations, and collaborate with school staff to support student learning and school effectiveness.

Key Requirements & Qualifications
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate (Bulletin 746).
  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Education or related field.
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience preferred.
  • In‑depth understanding of Louisiana Student Standards for Social Studies and curriculum implementation.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Classroom‑management expertise.
  • Competence in data‑driven instruction.
Responsibilities
  • Fulfill all duties traditionally expected of teachers.
  • Design, plan, and deliver student‑centered instruction to all students, meeting educator evaluation standards in accordance with federal, state, and district regulations.
  • Assume responsibility for student learning growth in the assigned area of instruction.
  • Plan and prepare in advance for teaching and provide written evidence of preparation referencing standards, units, activities, materials, literacy strategies, and outcome evaluations.
  • Establish learning objectives consistent with student needs, district‑adopted curriculum, and human growth principles.
  • Use instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate students.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and achieves learning objectives.
  • Establish, post, and enforce rules and expectations for student behavior.
  • Implement all components of the district‑adopted curriculum with fidelity.
  • Provide opportunities for student engagement to enhance retention, application, relevance, and higher‑order thinking.
  • Use available resources, including RTI, to develop intervention plans for students who fail to progress.
  • Plan and provide rigorous assessments aligned to state standards and provide timely feedback.
  • Understand individualized plans for students with behavior, health, or learning needs and ensure accommodations and modifications are in place.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professionals to assess and develop plans for health, behavior, and learning issues.
  • Provide accommodations and interventions for at‑risk or remedial students, or subgroups as appropriate.
  • Provide clear and timely information to parents, caregivers, and colleagues regarding classroom expectations and student progress, and be available for conferences.
  • Assist school administration in implementing policies governing student conduct and school operation.
  • Monitor student conduct and enforce all policies governing conduct.
  • Assist administrators and staff with safe transitions of students through the building.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, books, materials, and facilities.
  • Perform administrative duties: attendance, classroom organization, responding to emails and phone calls.
  • Maintain an organized classroom environment with accessible supplies and resources.
  • Maintain effective record‑keeping: lesson plans, attendance, grades, inventory, scheduling, assessment data, and student work.
  • Supply lesson plans, seating charts, class rosters, and essential substitute information.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment by participating in team‑teaching, planning, professional learning communities, grade‑level meetings, staff development, and committees.
  • Serve on special committees (504, SBLC, Pupil Progression/IAIP, Crisis, Dyslexia) as required and perform related work.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and support for student extracurricular activities.
  • Attend all official club events, including local, regional, state, and national conferences and competitions.
  • Ensure club plans conform to school and district policy.
  • Enforce applicable student dress code at official club functions.
  • Safeguard and account for all club monies, documenting receipts per school and board rules.
