Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise students to realize their intellectual, emotional, and psychological potential.
  • Design, plan, and deliver student‑centered instruction that meets Louisiana Student Standards for grades 5–8 and aligns with the district curriculum.
  • Assume responsibility for student learning growth, including developing and monitoring yearly learning targets.
  • Plan and prepare for teaching, providing written evidence of preparation that references standards, units, activities, materials, and assessment strategies.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with other professional staff to develop plans addressing health, behavioral, and learning challenges.
  • Provide accommodations and interventions for at‑risk or remedial students and ensure appropriate modifications are in place.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, caregivers, and colleagues, providing clear information on classroom expectations, student progress, and ways to support learning.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, IEP team members, and community resources to improve student outcomes.
  • Provide specialized instruction consistent with each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned paraprofessionals, leading by example in academic, social/emotional, and behavioral areas.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver compliant IEPs, including scheduling meetings, maintaining records, and ensuring progress notes are completed on time.
  • Assist administration in implementing policies that govern student conduct and effective school operation.
  • Monitor student conduct throughout the building and enforce policies and rules.
  • Perform administrative duties such as attendance, classroom organization, and timely response to communications.
  • Maintain an organized, safe classroom environment that promotes learning for all students.
  • Keep accurate record‑keeping for lesson plans, attendance, grades, inventory, and assessment data.
  • Prepare essential information for substitutes in case of absence.
  • Engage in professional activities such as team teaching, planning, community meetings, and staff development.
  • Serve on required committees and perform related duties as directed by the principal or district administration.
  • Support extracurricular activities for designated student organizations, ensuring adherence to school and district policies.
  • Attend after‑school events, faculty meetings, parent/family nights, and other scheduled gatherings, as required.
  • Maintain professional personal appearance and demonstrate respect for colleagues.
Key Requirements and Qualifications
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate in Special Education (Grades 1–5, 4–8, or applicable grade band) in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education guidelines.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Preferred: 2+ years of teaching experience in special education.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Louisiana Student Standards for grades 5–8 and ability to adapt general education curriculum to meet students with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with IEP development and implementation, accommodations, and modifications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; effective classroom management.
  • Collaborative ability with general education teachers, related service providers, and families.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to differentiate instruction.
  • Proficiency in using data‑driven instruction to support individual student growth.
