Education
Required — High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred — Trade school or company school.
Work ExperienceRequired — 2 years of experience in commercial, industrial, or hospital maintenance, or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program.
Preferred — Healthcare experience.
CertificationsRequired — Valid driver's license in the state of residence.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Experience with hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC‑R, and carpentry.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Mechanically inclined, able to multitask with minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of state, parish, building codes and JCAHO standards.
- Self‑directed and able to handle mental and physical stress to complete all jobs, including emergencies.
- Ability to work indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces for extended periods.
- Basic reading of mechanical and electrical symbols, blueprints, schematics, specifications and drawings.
- Proper handling of power and hand tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Availability for on‑call emergencies and extended hours.
- Perform general inspections, troubleshooting and repairs of minor electrical, mechanical and plumbing items within hospital or clinic settings (e.g., unclogging plumbing lines, replacing light bulbs, repairing leaking faucets, painting touch‑up).
- Follow up on completed assignments to ensure equipment functions properly.
- Respond to and repair specialty systems, such as nurse call, fire alarm, television, medical gas and ceiling systems.
- Complete preventive maintenance inspections per scheduled checkpoints and maintain documentation.
- Assist with maintenance of equipment within assigned area(s).
- Perform related duties as required.
- Assist other hospital and clinic departments with daily maintenance and support services, and repair facilities structures and building systems.
- Remain onsite during severe weather emergencies or disasters assigned to work area.
- Remain knowledgeable about federal, state, local laws, accreditation standards and regulatory requirements; ensure compliance.
- Comply with Ochsner Health System and managed entities’ Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, reporting any unethical or questionable behaviors, patient privacy or safety concerns.
Job requires lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally or 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and moving objects. Work may involve walking or standing for significant periods, occasional pushing and pulling of materials. Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and communicable diseases may occur, including entry into isolation rooms.
