The BOEC Adaptive Ski and Snowboard Winter Internship is open to applicants 21 years of age and older. After a comprehensive month-long training, interns become an integral part of the ski program. They begin as assistant instructors and advance to primary instructors based on skill level and readiness to lead lessons. Opportunities exist for interns to become certified through the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) in adaptive teaching.
This job, although incredibly rewarding and educational, is physically and mentally demanding. Interns may spend their days instructing participants on adapting skiing techniques, helping students with physical challenges on and off the lift, and helping to improve current skill sets. Interns may also help transport groups of participants to and from the ski office to ensure their ability to participate in our program.
During the winter, interns have the opportunity to work on wilderness courses with various groups ranging from kids with cleft lip and palate to groups with brain injuries or epilepsy. Responsibilities on these courses include but are not limited to planning, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating courses. When assigned to work on a Wilderness course, interns and other staff remain with participants twenty-four hours per day, staying overnight at the Scott Griffith Lodge.
This internship is located in Breckenridge, CO, and runs from November - April.
