Position: Police Officer (Lateral)

The Town of Breckenridge Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer (Lateral). Police Officers perform a variety of routine and complex public safety work in the performance and administration of police patrol, investigation, traffic enforcement and control, citizen assistance, and related law enforcement activities. Officers carry out routine and special assignments using a community-oriented policing approach which emphasizes and balances partnerships, problem-solving and law enforcement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be 21 years of age or older at time of appointment.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have successfully completed a minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Successful completion of a background check is required, including but not limited to a criminal history search, polygraph, and psychological and physical examinations.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

REQUIRED:
  • Current Colorado POST certification or current POST certification from another US State with the ability to obtain CO POST certification required.
  • A valid Colorado driver's license is required at time of appointment.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS:

Qualified applicants must attach proof of their P.O.S.T. certification or proof of current enrollment in a Police academy program with their online application.

If selected to proceed in the recruitment process, candidates will be expected to participate in oral interviews. Candidates who are selected to proceed after their interview, will participate in a ride-a-long and integrity interview. If a candidate is selected to move forward in the recruitment after their ride-a-long and integrity interview, they may be offered a conditional offer of employment based on their successful completion of polygraph testing, psychological exam, medical examination, and a thorough background check.

DISQUALIFIERS:

The Town of Breckenridge has disqualification guidelines for Sworn Officer positions. They generally relate to the following background criteria: integrity, narcotics behavior, driving history, excessive force or violence, financial responsibility and employment history and discipline.
