The Commercialization Engineering Team is seeking a R&D Technician to support the commercialization process for new and existing paint products. The role is responsible for executing routine experiments, recording results, and demonstrating basic knowledge of raw materials and equipment to capture and record data. The position functions under moderate supervision and interfaces with the department and project teams.

This role will report to Sherwin‑Williams Morikis Global Technology Center located at 6745 Miller Road, Brecksville, OH 44141. It is not remote/hybrid.

Responsibilities Lab Processing
  • Independently performing lab testing including scale‑ups, test methods, and heat‑age stability.
  • Executing routine experiments, recording results, and learning basic knowledge of equipment/computing tools to capture and record data. May lead a portion of a more challenging project with supervisor support.
  • Developing basic knowledge of processing and raw materials.
  • Executing and analyzing experiments, providing regular updates to project lead/supervisor.
  • Identifying and assessing technologies, paint making and testing, data analysis, and applying paint formulation knowledge to meet performance requirements.
  • Writing basic reports, outlining procedures used, and results obtained.
  • Recognizing problems and suggesting corrective actions; may require supervisor support.
  • Analyzing data, beginning to draw conclusions, and starting to make recommendations.
  • Proficient in operating moderately complex lab instruments.
Project Management
  • Identifying continuous improvement opportunities and validating and implementing change with supervisor support.
  • Supporting commercialization product validation and continuous improvement projects. May lead a portion of a more challenging project with supervisor/project lead support.
  • Analyzing data, making decisions based upon data, demonstrating critical thinking, and recognizing anomalies; may require coaching and support from supervisor.
  • Communicating within the project team regarding project needs and status with limited support.
  • Establishing its own timeline for assignments based on priorities with moderate assistance from supervisor; identifying and resolving hurdles with moderate support.
  • Driving continuous improvement projects forward with moderate support from supervisor.
Safety and Quality
  • Ensuring safety, housekeeping, and ISO practices are followed.
  • Maintaining all required certifications and following quality standards.
  • Actively seeking to reduce risk through corrective action of unsafe practices.
  • Documenting and maintaining an up‑to‑date electronic lab notebook and project folder per ISO standards.
Communication
  • Producing clear and concise written documentation and verbal presentation of information and adapting to audiences within the department.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of lab results and technical information.
  • Having awareness of group business knowledge and understanding the impact of work decisions.
  • Communicating within the department; communicating with other departments, developing relationships, and influencing others with supervisor support.
  • Communicating work progress, status, completion, and issues and working with supervisor to suggest solutions.
Qualifications Basic Qualification
  • Legally authorized to work in the country without needing sponsor for visa or permanent residence.
  • At least 18 years of age.
Formal Education
  • Required:

    High School Diploma.
  • Preferred:
    Project Management Certification.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Required:

    2 years of lab experience.
  • Basic math skills and data analysis.
  • Preferred:
    Previous commercialization, paint making, coating or processing related experience.
  • Experience in project leadership/management.
  • Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, One Note).
