Key Responsibilities- Performs in-depth technical review and approval of all tax filings and government tax audits of varying complexities.
- Acts as an expert in estate and trust tax matters.
- Takes full ownership of major tax returns and assigns tasks to tax preparers as necessary.
- Engages actively in client interactions and tax planning initiatives to support the A&A Department on larger accounts.
- Takes on client service responsibilities for designated accounts and may lead client meetings.
- Keeps firm personnel informed about significant tax updates and changes affecting clients.
- Oversees and coordinates government tax audits and may represent clients during discussions with tax authorities.
- Ensures accurate and timely billing and collection processes.
- Possesses thorough knowledge of the firm’s tax philosophies and viewpoints.
- Stays abreast of economic and political trends that could impact tax regulations.
- Prepares ad-hoc reports and projects as requested by firm partners.
- Evaluates tax preparation and research tools for recommendations to partners.
- Contributes to firm business development efforts through community and industry involvement.
- May need to travel occasionally for client meetings, seminars, and work at clients’ offices.
- Expected to work overtime especially during busy tax seasons.
- At least seven to ten years’ experience in public accounting with increasing responsibility in tax roles.
- Minimum two years representing clients in dealings with tax authorities.
- Previous supervisory experience in tax preparation, particularly in estate and trust taxation.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required, CPA license essential, and a master's in taxation is a plus.
- Maintain at least forty hours of annual continuing education related to technical and business skills.
- Must hold a valid CPA license and be a member in good standing with the AICPA.
- Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Will be responsible for the coaching and development of tax department staff at various levels.
- Understand the training needs of all tax team members and provide guidance accordingly.
- Participate in performance reviews and assessments within the tax department.
