Overview
Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. The position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Community Recreation and Deployed Support Branch;
Fleet Readiness;
Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC); NBK Kitsap Bremerton.
- Perform a variety of duties in support of Morale, Welfare and Recreation Community Recreation program that includes special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, bowling, Library, grab-n-go, movies and outdoor recreation.
- Demonstrate customer service while attending to front counter operations such as use of point of sale systems, collecting fees/cash handling associated with sale of tickets and rental items, and maintaining accuracy of daily sales transactions.
- Assist customers with questions, complaints and suggestions.
- Check Community Recreation equipment and resources in and out, collect any applicable rental fees, inventory items, and complete inspections upon return.
- Conduct inventory, maintain inventory controls, and maintain equipment for proper accountability of program equipment and resources.
- Assist in day-to-day administration of multiple programs to which assigned, including submission of event after-action reports, patronage data collection, and entering program data.
- Perform community outreach.
- Research and provide information and referral for a variety of recreational opportunities for individuals/families on and off the base.
- Issue game equipment, provide general housekeeping support, assist with bowling program, and provide overall program support.
- Must be able to handle cash and operate a point of sale system; incumbent must be capable of driving a 15‑passenger van.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must have practical work experience including direct customer service and handling cash utilizing a point-of-sale system.
- Irregular working hours required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Must have and maintain a valid state drivers' license.
- Incumbent must pass all applicable records and background checks.
- Incumbent must have or be able to obtain and maintain the following certifications within 90 days of hire:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification
- Food Handler certification (where food is prepared)
- Alcohol safety training (where alcohol is served)
- Knowledge of the goals, principles, techniques and procedures used in organizing, planning and conducting leisure time activities.
- Knowledge of the Navy MWR mission, the scope of Community Recreation activities and their suitability for individuals, groups, ages and interests.
- Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations related to the assigned work area.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic to compute charges, disperse change accurately, and prepare reports.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and others as they relate to fitness, sports and aquatics programming.
- Skill in planning and carrying out an enhanced program in the recreation specialty area which meets the needs of the participating community.
- Skill in providing excellent customer service obtained through prior experience and training.
- Ability to competently and independently carry out day‑to‑day recreation operations.
- Ability to organize, plan, administer special events and entertainment activities.
- Ability to maintain records, compile and organize data for reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
There is no educational requirement for this position.

- The selected employee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
