Description
Acting for the Camera Adjunct Instructor – Salary: $1,000 per credit. Classification:
Adjunct Faculty.
Reports to:
Dean of Social Sciences & Humanities.
Olympic College is recruiting an adjunct faculty to join the faculty and staff team in the Social Sciences & Humanities Division with the OC Film School. The position will be part-time Filmmaking faculty, teaching primarily FILM 240, Acting for the Camera, and other FILM classes as determined by the discipline faculty. This position requires in‑person instruction with day‑wide availability between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
As a comprehensive community college, we offer instruction in Basic Studies, which includes awarding a high school diploma, GED preparation, and English to Speakers of Other Languages; academic transfer and workforce education degrees and certificates; and four applied baccalaureate degrees. Additionally, we provide community education throughout our two‑county region.
The OC Film School features a media production studio, dedicated editing suites, a sound stage, all‑new film production equipment, a screening theatre, and Mac computers with industry software. The program grants Bachelor’s and Associate degrees in Filmmaking and is taught by current and former industry professionals.
Essential Functions- Teach evening, distance, and in‑person classes in Shelton;
Bremerton, and Poulsbo campuses when requested. - Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record keeping.
- Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested.
- Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities to meet those needs.
- Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
- An MA (MFA preferred) in Acting/Directing or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in film acting and scene study or related courses at the college level.
- Preference will be given to instructors with a strong background in the Stanislavski System, Meisner technique, directing experience, and strong ties to the profession.
- A working knowledge of video equipment (camera, boom, monitor, etc.) as used in the class environment is required; editing skills are a plus.
- Recent experience as an actor or director in feature films and/or episodic content or web series. Preference will be given to instructors with SAG/AFTRA, AEA affiliations, and recent/current film credits.
- Evidence of a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
- College teaching experience.
- Experience using Canvas LMS.
- Conduct instruction for clustered classes of different levels of learning.
- Demonstrate the ability to remain current in Filmmaking trends, especially with regard to theories and changing terminology.
- Deliver instructional course content with excitement and enthusiasm.
- Use a variety of methods and modes of instruction to ensure student success.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching students with little or no background, as well as the experienced student desiring to further their careers.
- Utilize a variety of assessment activities to evaluate student learning and achievement.
- Demonstrate success working with individuals and groups representing a wide range of diverse cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds as well as military veterans.
- Support diversity in higher education through the application of culturally responsive teaching pedagogies and the use of diverse resources/voices, as well as by contributing through actions.
- Foster a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.
- Demonstrate success incorporating accessibility and special needs accommodation via course materials and classroom activities.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom and with other professionals to maintain effective and positive working relationships.
