Private Music Lesson Adjunct - Orchestral Strings
Salary: $1,000 per credit

The Olympic College’s Music program offers private individual instruction in a variety of instruments as well as vocal. Faculty provide lessons using distance learning through Zoom, Skype, Canvas or face‑to‑face instruction. Adjunct faculty are employed in brass, wind/reed, guitar, bass guitar, strings, piano and voice. Candidates should be comfortable using technology to adapt their instruction.
Essential Functions- Teach evening, distance, and in‑person private lessons on violin, viola, cello or bass.
- Provide quality teaching, including preparation, grading, and record keeping.
- Provide class syllabi/guidelines to students by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested.
- Identify individual learning needs and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities.
- Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Hold regularly scheduled private lessons for the duration of enrollment (1/2 credit = ½ hr/week; 1 credit = 1 hr/week).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Experience in teaching or mentoring music students—specifically in the area of desired instruction.
- Master’s degree in area of instruction.
- Two years of private lesson teaching experience at the audit level.
- Ability to play and teach in both classical and jazz styles on upright bass, and to teach technique on violin, viola, and/or cello.
- Visa sponsorship unavailable—only candidates authorized to work in the United States will be considered.
- Faculty must submit official, unopened transcripts to Human Resources within 30 days of employment.
- Salary contract will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits.
- Adjunct positions are contracted quarterly and reviewed each quarter.
- Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon initial hire and must work 50% of a full‑time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. Additional hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count toward this requirement.
Prior to hire, a background check will be conducted. Candidates must also complete the Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form as required by WB HB 2327. Employees must reside in Washington State and within reasonable distance of the campus.
