Functions

The Director of the Surgical Technology Program is responsible for overseeing the management, administration, and continuous improvement of the Surgical Technologist Program accredited by ARC/STSA (Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) and CAHEEP (Committee on Accreditation of Health Education Programs). This position ensures that the program meets all accreditation standards, provides high-quality education to students, and promotes the success of the program’s graduates in obtaining certification and employment in the surgical field.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the overall Surgical Technology Program activities with the Dean of Health Sciences
  • Provide overall leadership and vision for the Surgical Technologist Program
  • Administer and oversee the program’s operations, including curriculum development, instructional methods, scheduling, and assessment
  • Ensure compliance with ARC/STSA and CAHEEP standards and guidelines
  • Mentor new faculty and provide feedback to the program evaluation process
  • Coordinate with Dean faculty recruitment, training, and professional development
  • Maintain the program’s accreditation status with ARC/STSA and CAHEEP, ensuring all documentation, reports, and updates are submitted in a timely and accurate manner
  • Implement and evaluate program policies and procedures to ensure alignment with accreditation requirements
  • Conduct self-assessments and prepare for external reviews and accreditation site visits
  • Oversee and participate in local events related to student recruitment and community outreach
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop, review, and revise the program’s curriculum to support current industry standards and best practices
  • Teach evening, distance, and branch campus courses when required
  • Provide quality teaching including related preparation, grading, and record keeping
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities
  • Provide student advising for career/academic pathways, mentoring, and support
  • Contribute to development of composition curriculum and student learning outcomes
  • Contribute to the assessment of student learning and program outcomes annually
  • Punctual communication with students, faculty, staff and administrators
  • Maintain physical office hours for student consultation
  • Attend faculty, department and division meetings and serve on college committees
  • Serve on appropriate college and community committees
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess an Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Have documented education or experience in instructional methodology, curriculum design and program planning
  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency
