Olympic College seeks faculty who are dedicated to student-centered learning and to fostering an equitable and inclusive educational environment. This is a full-time, tenure-track position responsible for preparing and teaching Anthropology courses, which may include, but are not limited to, Survey of Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural, Linguistic, and Biological Anthropology.
Responsibilities- Prepare and teach primarily Survey of Anthropology and two or more of the four fields of Anthropology (Archaeology, Biological, Cultural, and/or Linguistics), with the possibility of teaching other specializations such as Environmental, Medical, and Applied Anthropology, and Indigenous Peoples of North America.
- Teach in-person courses primarily on the Bremerton campus but also at the branch campuses in Poulsbo and Shelton when requested.
- Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record keeping; class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested; academic advising and assessment for students.
- Contribute to and lead in the development of the Anthropology curriculum and student learning outcomes.
- Effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Maintain physical office hours for student consultation; attend faculty, department, and division meetings, serve on college committees, and participate in college governance.
- Perform related duties as assigned and/or required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Anthropology or a closely related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 semester or 27 quarter credit hours of graduate Anthropology coursework.
- Experience teaching Anthropology at the college level.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach and communicate anthropological concepts and engage students in critical thinking.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Anthropology
- College teaching experience, particularly community college teaching experience.
- Experience in teaching courses in two or more subfields of Anthropology.
- Anthropological expertise and ability to teach and develop curriculum in one or more of the following areas:
Forensic Anthropology, Cultural Resource Management, Environmental Anthropology, Indigenous Anthropology, Medical Anthropology, and Applied Anthropology. - Experience in developing and supporting community-based training opportunities for students and/or certificate programs and/or interdisciplinary pathways.
Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered. Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment. This is a full-time faculty position contracted on an annual basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience.
The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual contract days remaining in the academic year. The salary listed is a range based on per month for the quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments may be a part of the instructional load.
