Olympic College (OC) is recruiting a full‑time tenure‑track faculty to teach courses in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. OC is a comprehensive community college offering a wide range of programs, including transitional studies, transfer and workforce degrees, certificates, applied bachelor’s degrees, and community education services across our two‑county region.
The DMS full‑time tenure faculty position involves teaching didactic, laboratory, and clinical courses, advising students, contributing to program assessment and accreditation (Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC‑DMS) and CAHEEP), and engaging in department, division, and college activities to support student success and professional growth.
Essential Functions- Teach and develop courses in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, including lectures, lab instruction, and clinical education.
- Design, implement, and update course curriculum to align with accreditation standards and industry best practices.
- Conduct student assessments using a variety of instructional methodologies and evaluation tools to measure learning outcomes.
- Supervise students in clinical settings, ensuring the application of theoretical knowledge to practical sonographic procedures.
- Engage in academic advising, mentoring, and career guidance for students.
- Participate in program accreditation processes, ensuring compliance with institutional and accreditation body standards (CAAHEP, JRC‑DMS).
- Maintain expertise in the field by engaging in ongoing professional development, research, and scholarly activities.
- Contribute to faculty governance, institutional service, and committee participation.
- Collaborate with healthcare partners, clinical affiliates, and faculty to maintain and expand clinical education opportunities.
- Utilize learning management systems and technology to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes diversity, equity, and student success.
- Participate in local events related to student recruitment and community outreach.
- Prepare class syllabi for students by the first day of classes and submit them to the division office as requested.
- Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities.
- Provide student advising for academic pathways, mentoring, and support.
- Contribute to the assessment of student learning and program outcomes annually.
- Maintain physical office hours for student consultation.
- Attend faculty, department, and division meetings and serve on college committees.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
- Ensure that the DMS Program remains compliant, competitive, and aligned with industry needs to support student success and workforce development.
- Hold authority to make key decisions related to curriculum delivery, student evaluation, and classroom management.
- Determine effective teaching strategies, instructional materials, and assessment methods to ensure student comprehension and skill development.
- Assess student progress, assign grades, and determine academic and clinical competence for program completion.
- Oversee day‑to‑day classroom and lab operations, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, equipment usage, and training procedures.
- Collaborate with clinical partners, provide on‑site supervision, and assess student performance in real‑world healthcare settings.
- Contribute to course revisions, aligning content with industry advancements and accreditation requirements.
- Directly influence student success, program quality, and accreditation compliance, ensuring graduates are well‑prepared for certification and employment.
