Integrated Basic Education & Skills Training (I-BEST) Adjunct – Salary: $1,000 per credit*.
OverviewOlympic College seeks skilled Basic Studies adjunct faculty to teach team‑taught I‑BEST programs across campus sites. Classes include students from diverse educational, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds, requiring college‑readiness instruction. The role reports to the Associate Dean of Basic Studies/Adult Education within the Workforce Development Division and may involve work on Bremerton, Shelton, or Poulsbo campuses.
Essential Functions- Team‑teach with professional‑technical instructors in I‑BEST classroom and laboratory settings (e.g., Manufacturing, Nursing Assistant Certified, Computer Information Systems, Business Technology) to support students in math and basic skill areas.
- Administer CASAS Appraisal, Pre‑tests, and Post‑tests, and submit and analyze data for program reporting in WABERS.
- Collaborate with instructors to develop courses and curricula.
- Maintain accurate student records and complete required federal and state reporting forms.
- Consult with students, assist with setting, documenting, and monitoring progress toward personal and educational goals.
- Prepare and grade teaching materials, provide class syllabi to enrolled students and the division office.
- Attend Basic Studies meetings quarterly or more frequently.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in adult/developmental education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field; two (2) years Full‑Time Equivalent experience teaching adults; basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office. - Desired:
Master’s degree in adult/developmental education, TESOL, or Applied Linguistics; two (2) years FTE teaching experience in a community‑college setting; familiarity with Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges Basic Skills requirements, Washington Adult Learning Standards, and CCRS.
Effectively teach and inspire enthusiasm in courses; demonstrate commitment to students with limited formal education or career‑focused students; use diverse instructional methods to ensure student success; contribute to college diversity; demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and collaboration; communicate effectively orally and in writing; incorporate technology appropriately; provide excellent customer service; understand and commit to Olympic College mission, vision, values; demonstrate ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment.
EmploymentTerms
Contracted on a quarterly basis, with salary based on full‑time academic level and credits; commissioned on a 50% portion of a full‑time load for two consecutive quarters for eligibility for benefits. Late arrival due to travel, evening, weekend, and off‑campus assignments may be required. No visa sponsorship; only U.S. authorized workers eligible. Background check and Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form required. Candidate must reside in Washington State and be within reasonable distance to campus.
