Olympic College is continuously recruiting adjunct faculty to teach courses in the College Success discipline. The College Success series offers courses that address academic and self‑management skills necessary for student success, including goal setting, college resources, personal empowerment, career and academic planning, time management, study skills, and financial literacy. The foundational course 110 provides an introduction to the Olympic College community, resources, and essential skills for student success.
Part‑time positions are open continuously and reviewed quarterly. Candidates who apply become active for 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies arise. Candidates available only to teach online will not be considered.
- Teach College Success course(s) in accordance with the college catalog, course outlines, syllabi, and departmental guidelines.
- Teach day and evening in‑person classes, some located on the Poulsbo and Shelton branch campuses.
- Provide quality teaching, including preparation, grading, and record‑keeping for assigned classes.
- Contribute to College Success assessment efforts as needed and respond to students’ queries in a timely fashion.
- Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities to meet those needs.
- Communicate promptly with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- College‑level teaching experience.
- Must be available to teach in‑person.
- Impart excitement and enthusiasm toward the course content and the educational experience.
- Use a variety of methods and modes of instruction to ensure student success.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching students with little or no background, as well as experienced students desiring to further their career.
- Utilize a variety of assessment activities to evaluate student learning and achievement.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning‑centered climate.
- Demonstrate success incorporating accessibility and special‑needs accommodations via course materials and classroom activities.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom and with other professionals to maintain effective and positive working relationships.
- Collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students as part of an educational team.
- Incorporate the use of technology in the delivery of course content and services, including use of the College‑approved learning management system.
- Uphold Olympic College's values and ethics necessary to maintain a positive climate.
Olympic College does not sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered. Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of employment. Salary is determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits; the listed range is per quarter and is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE).
Adjunct positions may include evening and/or weekend classes, satellite campus instruction, off‑campus assignments, and travel to clinical sites.
Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon initial hire; they must work 50% of a full‑time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. Benefits that may become available after eligibility include a deferred compensation program (DRS), TIAA supplemental retirement savings plan, sick leave, Aflac, tuition reimbursement for space‑available, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), fitness center access, reduced‑rate childcare, and priority consideration for on‑site childcare.
