Position

German Adjunct. Salary: $1,000 per credit. Classification:
Adjunct Faculty. Reports to the Dean of Social Sciences & Humanities. Olympic College is recruiting adjunct faculty to teach German Language courses. Part‑time, continuous positions reviewed on a quarter‑by‑quarter basis.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach college‑level German Language course(s) following the college catalog, schedule of classes, course outlines, syllabi and departmental guidelines.
  • Provide quality instruction, including related preparation and grading.
  • Distribute class syllabi to enrolled students and the division office.
  • Maintain accurate student records and complete required forms.
  • May include evening instruction.
  • Communicate punctually with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications
:

  • Master’s degree in German Language or a directly related area from an accredited college or university.
  • Near‑native fluency with teaching experience.

Desired qualifications
:

  • College teaching experience.
  • Ability to teach and impart excitement and enthusiasm for German courses.
  • Commitment to teaching students with little or no background, as well as experienced students wishing to further their career.
  • Use of a variety of instructional methods and modes.

Terms of Employment

Adjunct positions are contracted on a quarterly basis. Compensation will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to Human Resources within 30 days of employment. The salary contract will depend on qualifications and credit load. Flexibility is required for evening, weekend, and satellite campus instruction, as well as occasional off‑campus travel.

Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon initial hire. To become eligible, an adjunct must work 50 percent of a full‑time load for two consecutive quarters. Additional hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count toward this requirement.

Benefits available after meeting the eligibility requirement include a Deferred Compensation Program (DRS) retirement savings plan, a TIAA supplemental retirement savings plan, sick leave, Aflac insurance, tuition waiver (space available), an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), access to a fitness center, and reduced‑rate and priority consideration for on‑site childcare (space available).

Employment Conditions

Background check (including criminal history) will be conducted for all new hires. Applicants will also complete a Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form as required by Washington State law (HB 2327). The employee must reside in Washington State within a reasonable distance from the campus to meet reporting requirements. Frequent travel to campus sites or other locations may be required.
