Private Music Lesson Adjunct - Orchestral Strings

Olympic College’s Music program offers private individual instruction in a variety of instruments as well as vocal. The program offers space for individualized instruction, practice and performance. Faculty provide lessons, utilizing distance learning through Zoom and/or Skype when possible. Adjunct faculty are employed in brass, wind/reed instruments, guitar, bass guitar, strings, piano and voice. Instruction will be delivered through a variety of modalities—including Canvas, Zoom, Skype and other online resources—as well as face‑to‑face instruction.
Candidates should be comfortable using these or related technologies to adapt their instruction.
- Teach evening, distance, and in‑person classes on the Bremerton and other campuses when requested
- Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record keeping
- Provide class syllabi and guidelines to enrolled students by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested
- Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities to meet those needs
- Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff, and administrators
- Hold regularly scheduled private lessons for students for the duration of their enrollment (½ credit = ½ hour per week; 1 credit = 1 hour per week)
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required
- Instructional course content with excitement and enthusiasm
- A variety of methods and modes of instruction to ensure student success
- Commitment to teaching students with little or no background, as well as experienced students wishing to further their careers
- A variety of assessment activities to evaluate student learning and achievement
- Success working with individuals from a wide range of diverse cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds, including military veterans
- Support for diversity in higher education through culturally responsive teaching pedagogies, diverse resources, and contributions through actions
- Foster a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation
- Understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning‑centered climate
- Incorporating accessibility and special‑needs accommodations via course materials and classroom activities
- Effective oral and written communication in the classroom and with other professionals
- Collaboration with faculty, staff, and students as part of an educational team
- Use of technology in delivery of course content and services, including the College‑approved learning management system
- Upholding Olympic College’s values and ethics necessary to maintain a positive climate
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Experience in teaching or mentoring music students, specifically in the desired instruction area
- Master’s degree in the area of instruction
- Two years of private lesson teaching experience at the audit level
- Ability to play and teach in both classical and jazz styles on upright bass, and to teach technique on violin, viola, and/or cello

Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of employment.
Final salary contract will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits. This adjunct faculty position is contracted on a quarterly basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE).
