Position: World History Adjunct

World History Adjunct – Overview

Salary: $1,000 per credit*

Classification: Adjunct Faculty

Reports to: Dean of Social Sciences & Humanities

Teaching Format: In‑person classes on the Bremerton campus; distance classes as needed.

Olympic College is specifically recruiting adjunct faculty to teach the World Civilization sequence (HIST& 126, 127, and 128). Candidates must be available for in‑person teaching on the campus. The role requires dedication to student‑centered learning, closing achievement gaps, supporting diversity and social justice learning opportunities, and employing data‑informed decision‑making in instruction. Part‑time positions are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter‑by‑quarter basis.

Applicants added to the pool remain active for 12 months from the application date. Online‑only candidates will not be considered.

Essential Functions
  • Teach in‑person classes on the Bremerton campus and distance classes as needed.
  • Teach college‑level courses in accordance with the college catalog, schedule of classes, course outlines, syllabi, and departmental guidelines.
  • Provide quality teaching, including related preparation and grading.
  • Provide class syllabi to students and to the division office as requested.
  • Maintain accurate records of students and complete required forms.
  • May include evening instruction and/or instruction at satellite campuses.
  • Communicate promptly with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in History from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Ability to teach World Civilization courses (HIST& 126, 127, 128).
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Additional Information

We are unable to sponsor visas for this position; only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.

Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of employment.

Final salary contract will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits. The position is contracted on a quarterly basis, with pay commensurate with educational background and experience. Flexibility is required to meet department needs, including evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite campuses, and off‑campus assignments such as travel to clinical sites.

Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon initial hire. An adjunct must work 50 percent of a full‑time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible for benefits; additional hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count.

Benefits that may become available after eligibility include deferred compensation program, TIAA supplemental retirement plan, sick leave, Aflac, tuition waiver, employee assistance program, fitness center access, reduced rate, and priority on‑site childcare, space available.
