Instruction & Classroom Support Tech - Chemistry Tutor Salary: $19.50 - $25.96 hourly.

Reports to:

Director of Tutoring. This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future vacancies. Individuals will be contacted as vacancies occur.

Olympic College is continuously recruiting for Chemistry Instructional Tutor positions that may occur throughout the year. This position will be responsible for helping students develop knowledge, insight, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills in Chemistry course materials. Part‑time positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter‑by‑quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur.

Essential Functions
  • Assist students in analyzing assignments and understanding class materials.
  • Assist students in interpreting and understanding chemistry concepts.
  • Assist students in the development of critical thinking and scientific communication skills.
  • Assist students in the development of effective study habits and skills.
  • Assist students working in an online format.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications
  • Reference from an instructor or professor if you are a current Olympic College student.
  • High School Graduate, Equivalent or Current Running Start Student.
  • Basic computer competency.
  • Applicants need to meet at least one set of course qualifications:
  • Inorganic Chemistry:
    Completion of CHEM 141/151, CHEM 142/152, and CHEM 143/153 or equivalent courses with an average decimal grade of 3.5 or better.
  • Organic Chemistry:
    Completion of CHEM 241/251, CHEM 242/252, and CHEM 243/253 or equivalent courses with an average decimal grade of 3.5 or better.

Terms of Employment

Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered. Hourly employees must work 480 hours in a rolling six‑month period to become eligible for health benefits. Hourly employees must work 70 hours in any five months for two consecutive years to become eligible for retirement. This position is scheduled to work up to 18 hours per week, with a salary of $19.50 – $25.96 per hour.

The employee does not receive benefits upon hire but may qualify for deferred compensation, retirement savings plans, sick leave, paid holidays, Aflac, tuition waiver, employee assistance program, fitness center, reduced rate and priority consideration for on‑site childcare.

Conditions of Employment

Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Candidates will also be required to complete a Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form as required WB HB 2327. The employee must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance of the campus to respond to workplace reporting requirements at the time of hiring. Frequent travel to Olympic College campuses or other sites may occur.
