Political Science Adjunct

Salary: $1,000 per credit*

Classification: Adjunct Faculty

Department: Social Science and Humanities (SSH)

Reports to: Dean of SSH

Olympic College is recruiting an adjunct faculty to join the Social Sciences & Humanities Division. The position will be part‑time, teaching primarily Intro to Political Science and American Government and other common‑course numbered POLS classes. The role requires in‑person instruction with daytime availability between 8:00 AM and 3:15 PM, and evenings as required from 5:00 PM to 7:15 PM.

Essential Functions
  • Teach evening, distance, and in‑person classes on the Poulsbo, Shelton, and Bremerton campuses when requested.
  • Provide quality teaching, including preparation, grading, and record keeping.
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested.
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities to meet those needs.
  • Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Political Science or a directly related area from an accredited college or university.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Must be available to teach during the day.
Desired Qualifications
  • PhD in Political Science.
  • College teaching experience.

  • Demonstrate ability to remain current in Political Science trends, especially with regard to theories and changing terminology.

  • Foster a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning‑centered climate.
  • Demonstrate success incorporating accessibility and special needs accommodations via course materials and classroom activities.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom and with other professionals to maintain effective and positive working relationships.
  • Collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students as part of an educational team.
  • Incorporate technology in the delivery of course content and services, including the use of the College‑approved learning management system.
  • Uphold Olympic College's values and ethics necessary to maintain a positive climate.
