Philosophy Adjunct Faculty

Salary: $1,000 per credit. Classification:
Adjunct Faculty.

Reports to:

Dean of Social Sciences & Humanities. The college is continuously recruiting adjunct faculty to teach courses in Philosophy.

Responsibilities
  • Teach the course(s) by college catalog, schedule of classes, course outlines, course syllabi, and any departmental guidelines.
  • Provide quality teaching including related preparation and grading.
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested.
  • Maintain accurate records of students and complete forms as required.
  • May require evening instruction.
  • Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Philosophy or closely related field required.
  • Instructors should be qualified to teach one or more of the following courses:
    Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Western Religions, Introductions to Eastern Religions, and Introduction to Logic.
  • College teaching experience preferred.

  • Appropriately incorporate the use of computer information technology in the delivery of services.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment, to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning-centered climate.
Additional Information
  • We are unable to sponsor visas. Only candidates authorized to work in the United States will be considered.
  • Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts within 30 days of employment.
  • Final salary contract will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits.
  • The position is contracted quarterly. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary range is per quarter.
  • A collective bargaining agreement exists and the position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE).
  • Flexibility required to meet departmental needs. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite campuses, and off‑campus assignments including travel may be part of the instructional load.
  • Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon initial hire; must work 50% of full‑time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. Hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count toward this requirement.
  • Benefits that may be available after meeting eligibility include Deferred Compensation Program (DRS), TIAA supplemental retirement savings plan, sick leave, Aflac, tuition waiver, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), fitness center, reduced rate and priority consideration on‑site childcare.
Conditions of Employment
  • Background check including criminal record history will be conducted prior to hiring.
  • Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form required under WB HB 2327.
  • Employee must reside in Washington State and within reasonable distance from campus for reporting requirements.
  • Frequent travel to Olympic College campuses or other sites may occur.
