Job Summary
Philosophy Adjunct. Salary: $1,000 per credit. Classification:
Adjunct Faculty.
Reports to:
Dean of Social Sciences & Humanities. This is a continuous recruitment listing; applicants are considered when an actual need arises. Positions are part-time and reviewed on a quarter‑by‑quarter basis. Applicants are active in the pool for 12 months from the application date.
- Teach the course(s) as listed in the college catalog, schedule, outlines, syllabi and departmental guidelines.
- Provide quality teaching, including preparation and grading.
- Provide class syllabi to enrolled students and the division office as requested.
- Maintain accurate student records and complete required forms.
- May be required to conduct evening instruction.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
- Master’s degree in Philosophy or a closely related field required.
- Qualified to teach one or more of:
Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Western Religions, Introduction to Eastern Religions, and Introduction to Logic. - College teaching experience preferred.
- Effectively teach and inspire excitement and enthusiasm in students.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching students with little or no background as well as to experienced students wishing to advance their careers.
- Utilize a variety of methods and modes of instruction to ensure student success.
- Contribute to the college’s diversity initiatives.
- Function as a team player.
- Foster a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.
- Work successfully with individuals and groups from diverse cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing in the classroom and with colleagues.
- Incorporate computer information technology appropriately in service delivery.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning‑centered climate.
We are unable to sponsor visas for this position; only candidates authorized to work in the United States will be considered. Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to Human Resources within 30 days of employment. The final salary contract will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits. Adjunct positions are contracted on a quarterly basis. Flexibility is required to meet departmental needs, including evening, weekend, satellite campus, or off‑campus assignments with travel.
