Essential Functions and Purpose

Assist Planners/Estimators with reviewing Work Notifications (WNs) and writing specifications and changes for work items. Assist with developing detailed accurate labor and material estimates for shipboard/shop work and repairs to be accomplished on government and commercial vessels using drawings and specifications and on-site ship checks for interference and access problems. Assist with soliciting and evaluating subcontractor price quotations. Responsible for learning how to prepare, verify, and distribute accurate and timely planning, budgeting, and reporting products.

Education/Training

Typically has an AA/AS plus two (2) years directly related experience, or three (3) years directly related experience and High School diploma or equivalent education.

  • Follow standard principles and systems and use appropriate terminology associated with a particular field of specialization.
  • Actively contribute to completion of team goals and assigned tasks.
  • Follow recommended approach to assigned work to facilitate achievement of desired results.
  • Typically work under direct and frequent supervision while performing routine duties using established procedures with detailed instructions

Working Relationships

Reports to the Planning and Estimating Manager and interfaces with Production Management, Scheduling, Supply Chain Management, Contracts, and the customer. Will be informed of priorities and allowed to schedule work as necessary to complete required tasks within guidelines provided by the Department Manager. This position has no direct reports.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Develop in-house estimates for subcontractor work.
  • Assist Ship Managers and Area Managers with managing problem resolutions, growth, and new work change orders.
  • Create NMD availabilities, work specifications, and estimates.
  • Use expertise, experience, and available data to develop, issue and distribute planning documents.
  • Attend meetings as needed.
  • Accomplish other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate baseline working knowledge of routine work applications.
  • Participate as a team member in a collaborative environment within a diverse workforce.
Accountability

Accurate, timely and complete work specifications and estimates in support of execution.

Standard Equipment Issue

Cell Phone, Desktop Computer, Dual Monitor, CAC or Smart Card Reader.

Unique/Additional Requirements

Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation. Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required. Must be able to gain access to all private and government work locations and or vessels. Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear.

Must have good eye/hand coordination. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels and the drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment. These areas can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $26.16- $34.34
