Position: Ship's Systems Analyst - BREMERTON (1887)
Overview

The Ship’s Systems Analyst (GS-12) provides senior-level ship systems subject matter expertise (SME) in direct support of aircraft carrier readiness for Commander, Naval Air Forces (CNAF). This role is embedded within the Aircraft Carrier Readiness Support (ACRS) mission and is focused on evaluating, sustaining, and improving the operational availability, material condition, and mission capability of assigned carrier ship systems.

The analyst supports readiness decision-making by delivering technically sound assessments, system status evaluations, and execution-focused recommendations across maintenance, modernization, repair, and lifecycle sustainment activities. Assignments are aligned to either nuclear or non-nuclear qualification pathways based on the systems supported and are executed in close coordination with CNAF staff, ship’s force, waterfront activities, program offices, and logistics stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a ship systems SME supporting CNAF aircraft carrier readiness objectives across assigned nuclear or non-nuclear ship systems.
  • Analyze system material condition, operational availability, and casualty impacts to readiness, providing clear technical assessments and actionable recommendations.
  • Support maintenance planning, repair execution, testing, and validation efforts during availabilities, surge readiness periods, and ongoing fleet operations.
  • Evaluate ship system configuration, lifecycle sustainment data, and logistics support products to ensure alignment with current readiness requirements.
  • Assist with the identification, prioritization, and resolution of system deficiencies affecting training, war fighting capability, safety, and habitability.
  • Provide technical input to readiness reporting, assessments, and briefings supporting senior CNAF leadership decision-making.
  • Coordinate across multiple organizations (ship’s force, TYCOM, NAVSEA, RMCs, and logistics activities) to ensure accurate system status awareness and unity of effort.
  • Execute duties onboard aircraft carriers and at Government facilities, including participation in ship visits, assessments, and readiness events as required.
  • Maintain strict compliance with security, access, and OPSEC requirements while operating in classified and controlled information environments.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Citizenship & Access: U.S. citizen;
    Ability to obtain and maintain required installation and ship access credentials (e.g., CAC)
  • Security Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance when required;
    Ability to maintain favorable status for duties involving CUI/NIPR access
  • Qualification Pathway (must meet one):
    • Nuclear Pathway:
      • Minimum 15 years experience with installed ship systems and subsystems (operation, maintenance, repair, testing)
      • At least 10 years of that experience supporting naval nuclear propulsion systems onboard aircraft carriers
    • Non-Nuclear Pathway:
      • Minimum 15 years experience with installed ship systems and subsystems (operation, maintenance, repair, testing)
      • At least 10 years of that experience supporting aircraft carrier ship systems excluding nuclear propulsion
  • Operational Readiness: Ability to perform work on-site at Government facilities and onboard aircraft carriers;
    Ability to travel in support of mission requirements
  • Training Compliance: Ability to complete and maintain all access-related, safety, and OPSEC training requirements (initial and recurring)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent aircraft carrier waterfront experience applying ship systems expertise to readiness, maintenance planning, repair execution, or validation activities.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness operating across multiple execution environments (shipboard and shore-based) while maintaining strict information security discipline.
  • Experience supporting readiness assessments, system status reporting, or availability execution in a high-tempo operational environment.
