The Classroom Lead assists with implementing one‑on‑one and small‑group intensive behavioral intervention therapy and tutoring to students with mild to severe behavioral problems, including students who may be physically and verbally aggressive, enrolled in the Day Treatment program. Monitors schedules, staffing, and regular scheduled and on‑call work activity documentation. Provides ongoing behavioral, therapeutic, and academic support to students enrolled in the program.
Provides mentorship regarding behavior management for program staff. Works with special education teachers to develop and deliver academic instruction. All staff in Madrona Day Treatment and Sequoia Program are considered “teacher/counselors:” caring adults who constantly engage with students to establish positive, healthy relationships.
- Works on an in‑depth basis with individual students’ exceptional needs to implement intensive behavioral therapy and tutoring to selected students one‑on‑one or in small groups. Observes, monitors, and redirects the behavior of students within approved procedures.
- Responds to and provides immediate, therapeutic interventions in crisis situations. Supports other treatment team members that are responding to crisis situations in the program.
- Develops and uses behavior intervention plans, including incentives as positive reinforcement, in conjunction with the therapist, teacher, and other program staff.
- Participates in consultations with parents and staff on behavior intervention therapy for students. Attends Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings to support the connection between educational goals and therapeutic interventions.
- Prepares schedules for coverage in classrooms and other learning environments. Assembles instructional/therapeutic materials. Provides coaching and mentorship to other staff in the program on behavior management techniques, handling crisis situations, implementing plans for students, and coordinating with parents and other outside agencies such as school districts.
