This position is a part‑time Fabric Worker with benefits at the Navy Exchange in Bremerton, WA. The role requires performing alterations and repairs on uniform and civilian garments, interacting with customers and maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
Responsibilities- Mount medals and sew items on uniforms as appropriate.
- Make alterations and repairs to uniform and civilian garments.
- Take customer body measurements to ensure proper garment fit.
- Measure correct placement of items and mark, trim, baste and press upon completion.
- Operate a sewing machine.
- Minimum one year of experience operating a sewing machine for alterations and garment repairs.
- Must be able to pass required background checks (e.g., Federal DOD Security Clearance).

One year of experience that provided the applicant with knowledge and skill to carry out basic modifications, alterations, and repairs of clothing.
Substitution of Education for ExperienceOne year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience, up to a high school diploma or GED for one year of general experience.
Specialized ExperienceOne year of experience that provided the applicant with the knowledge and skill in the use of a sewing machine to perform alterations and repairs to garments such as pinning, basting, trimming, lengthening and shortening sleeves, taking in and letting out waists of jackets, replacing zippers, lowering collars, replacing pockets, shortening and lengthening pants, tapering skirts, sewing on ratings and stripes, etc.
Physical RequirementsTypically stands, stoops, bends and kneels to measure and mark items being altered; sits for long periods while operating a sewing machine or doing hand sewing. Continual use of hands, arms, and fingers is required in sewing and using shears.
