Position: Fabric Worker PT w/benefits

Overview

Responsibilities
  • Mount medals and sew items on uniforms as appropriate
  • Make alterations and repairs to uniforms and civilian garments
  • Takes customer body measurements to ensure proper garment fit
  • Measure the correct placement of items and affix marks, trims, bastes, and press upon completion
  • Operate a sewing machine
Qualifications
  • One year of experience using a sewing machine to perform alterations and repairs to garments
  • Must be able to pass appropriate background checks required for the specific area of responsibility (e.g., Federal DoD Security Clearance)
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of a sewing machine to perform a variety of tasks such as pinning, basting, trimming, lengthening and shortening sleeves, taking in and letting out waists, replacing zippers, lowering collars, replacing pockets, shortening and lengthening pants, tapering skirts, and sewing on ratings and stripes
  • One year of general experience that provides the applicant with basic modifications, alterations, and repair skills of clothing, or one year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience; up to one year of general experience may be substituted with a High School Diploma or GED
Physical Requirements

Usually stands, stoops, bends, and kneels to measure and mark items being altered. Sits for long periods of time while operating a sewing machine or doing hand sewing. Continual use of hands, arms, and fingers is required in sewing and using shears.
