Welder/Fabricator 4
With a record backlog of high performance, aluminum boats to build for the military and first responders, SAFE Boats need experienced Aluminum Welders/Fabricators to apply their expertise to our amazing products.
The Welder/Fabricator 4 uses welding and other tools and equipment to join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal to build boats. Position is responsible for the daily coordination of assigned area. In addition, this position will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, ensuring standard work is being performed, and identifying and resolving quality issues.
This position can apply their experience to problem solve and complete advanced tasks/work effectively and efficiently with little to no supervision.
What you will be doing:
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
- Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders.
- Chip or grind off excess weld or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers & portable grinders.
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc & plasma arc.
- Position and secure work pieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
- Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.

Experience &
Education:
- Any combination of training, education, or experience equivalent to 5 to 7 overall years of experience in area of expertise.
- Aluminum experience required, GMAW (MIG) preferred
- Requires a superior working knowledge in the usage of production machinery, common hand tools, handheld power tools and fabricating equipment.
- Able to read and understand blueprints and weld symbols
- Experience in marine industry/boat building preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Move 40 lbs.
- Grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Bend, stoop, squat and stretch to complete tasks
- Requires superior working knowledge in the usage of production machinery, common hand tools, handheld power tools and fabricating equipment
- Able to read and understand blueprints and weld symbols
- Experience in marine industry/boat building preferred
- Ability to pass a welding skill test appropriate for the position
- Ability to get underway with high-speed watercraft in variable weather conditions
Internal Applicants:
