Technical Planner Trainee
REPORTS TO:
Planning and Execution Manager FLSA STATUS:
Non-Exempt PAY RANGE: $25.00-$27.00 per hour DOE FT / PT STATUS:

LOCATION:
Shipyard(s), Customer facilities Summary
Assist planning team to develop plans for executing work, identifying technically accurate material for procurement, and writing technical work instructions for the production/execution team. This position also includes conducting on-site reviews of shipboard conditions, proper filing of documentation, providing accurate work status, and other duties as assigned. This is a trainee position, and initial responsibilities and assignments may be limited in scope to promote accelerated competency in specific areas.
- Production Planning and Execution- (Core Function)
- Assist with structural inspections at designated locations.
- Obtain IMIA's structural inspector certification.
- Identify, document and report deficiencies found onboard naval vessels.
- Work with production team to develop structural plans.
- Learn to review work specifications and technical standards to develop work instructions for trades use.
- Learn to interpret NAVSEA drawings, standards, and specifications.
- Determine Objective Quality Evidence requirements from guidance documents.
- Material Planning
- Learn to develop job material list from technical references and drawings.
- Learn to determine material and quantities of material required to perform the work.
- Resolve technical specification conflict or suitable substitutes.
- Assist purchasing with finding qualified vendors.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Learn to review work specifications and technical standards to develop work instructions for trades use.
- Learn to interpret NAVSEA drawings, standards, and specifications.

- Material Planning
- Learn to develop job material list from technical references and drawings.
- Learn to determine material and quantities of material required to perform the work.

- Ability to enter and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to communicate effectively and multi-task.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs
- High school diploma, GED.
- Most work is performed in a shipyard environment under pressure, fast-paced conditions.
- Within the shipyard, minimal exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces.
- May require overtime work 50 to 60 hours per week
