Job Title

The WYCA was established under the authority and guidelines of the National Guard Youth Challe NG e Program. This is a voluntary program which includes a 22-week residential phase followed by a 24-month post-residential phase. The purpose of the program is to provide a highly disciplined, safe and professional learning environment that empowers at-risk youth to improve their educational levels and become responsible and productive citizens of the State of Washington.

Some of what you'll be doing:
Assist the Registered Nurse with the coordination of the WYCA Health Center programs and services for a 24/7 residential program for at-risk youth, including health center operations, sick call, coordinating Cadet medical care, security, medication administration, overall wellness, and health & hygiene education. Act as a secondary resource for Cadet's physical health and wellness management strategies.

A valid Washington State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). OR Recent graduate of a formal education program who is awaiting the results of the licensing examination or applicant with license from another state. Must have a Washington State issued temporary permit. Failure to obtain a license shall result in immediate termination from the position by the appointing authority.

AND An Associates Degree in Nursing

Special Requirements :
Initial and continuous unblemished/unrestricted licensure in the state of Washington as an LPN. In addition, employee will be required to maintain CME credits sufficient to maintain license. Preferred/Desired

Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field One year's experience working as an LPN in a Hospital, Clinical, School or Health Center setting. Experience in adolescent populations or school nursing is preferred. Working with at-risk or disengaged youth, families/guardians, educational/social service agencies and community members. Assessing emergency situations as well as the health needs and requirements of at-risk teenagers.

Knowledge of:
Knowledge of crisis interventions, psychiatric diagnosis, and treatment techniques. Knowledge of the Growth and Development in adolescents. Sound comprehensive nursing and medication administration practices. Administration and control of medication in accordance with state law. Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services. Communicable disease and control reporting requirements. HIPAA/FERPA compliance requirements. Skills / Abilities :
Maintain the highest standards of personal and professional ethical conduct in accordance with established guidelines. Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations related to working with healthcare providers and in a school around information pertaining to medical and/or reasonable accommodation. Demonstrate safe health care, reflecting the philosophy, purpose, and standard of current law.
