JOB SUMMARY
The Campus Security individual will be responsible for implementing strategies for creating a safe and inviting school campus for students and staff.
This person will monitor hallways, campus grounds and facilities as prevention of student disruption or violence and from intruders who should not be on school properties.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain a high level of visibility and rapport with students.
- Will patrol and supervise campus facilities and grounds before, during and after school hours, alert for vandalism, graffiti, unauthorized persons on campus, signs of forced entry and any unusual circumstances during the school day.
- Maintain orderly and smooth traffic flow of students in hallways, lunchroom, parking lots, and student restrooms.
- Mediate problems which may arise between students.
- Ensure students adhere to rules and time schedules of building before and after school, and between classes and during breaks.
- Inform administrators or appropriate officials of problem situations in a timely, accurate manner.
- Patrol bus drop-off and pick-up before and after school.
- Intercept and check non-school persons on campus.
- Respond to incidents involving alcohol, drugs, fights and threatening situations; intervene or restrain students or non-students; remove and confiscate weapons; respond immediately to calls from administrators for assistance.
- Choose a course of action in uncertain situations on the basis of procedures and rules established by administration.
- View video footage from surveillance cameras to assist with investigations.
- Promote a positive attitude toward learning and school.
- May supervise students during in-school suspension.
- Assist in attendance office as required.
- Perform all duties relevant to assignment as may be required/assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in and around the various buildings that comprise middle and/or senior high schools. Employee works outdoors for a portion of the day and is frequently exposed to inclement weather, moving vehicles and fumes; exposed to hostile or extremely agitated individuals or potentially dangerous situations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Successful experience or training in working with diverse groups of youth and young adults.
- Demonstrated skills in communicating effectively and using sound judgment with a broad variety of students, staff and community.
- Demonstrated skills in handling crisis situations and analyzing problems effectively and calmly; exercise conflict management skills, use verbal de-escalation and supervise disruptive or hostile students, parents and the public.
- Possess or be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR Certificates.
- Havetrainingorbewillingtobetrainedin Reality Therapy/Control Theory, Behavior Management/Anger Control, MANDT and other in-service programs dealing with effective communications and handling of eruptive situations, and self- defense procedures.
- Skills in working well with others.
- Must have above-average record of attendance, punctuality, and reliability at work.
- Must be able to lift a maximum of fifty (50) pounds (WAC-).
- Ability to walk, stand, climb and descend stairs for long periods of time.
- Adequate vision, hearing, strength, agility and physical stamina to pursue offenders; patrol assigned campus on foot; observe, investigate and report activities which are of concern; protect self against attack and to protect others.
- Demonstrated technology skills, including word processing, email, and internet use.
- Knowledge of the technology associated with surveillance cameras or willingness and ability to learn necessary monitoring/reviewing techniques.
- ICS/NIMS training preferred.
- Must have neat and clean appearance upon arrival to work.
