Join The Coffee Oasis team as an On-Call Direct Care Staff in our Young Adult Shelter in Bremerton, WA, and be part of a transformative mission that makes a real difference in the community.
This onsite role offers the unique opportunity to engage with young adults experiencing housing instability in a supportive environment, fostering compassion, safety, and meaningful connections.
This is a part-time, on-call position with no guaranteed schedule. The primary staffing need is overnight coverage on Saturdays and Sundays. Candidates should have regular availability to work 11.5-12-hour overnight shifts on these days, as needed to meet organizational needs.
A Day in the Life As an On-Call Direct Care Staff member, you play an essential role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and success of young adults staying in our Overnight Shelter. Every shift brings opportunities to build relationships, provide support, and help create a stable environment where residents can focus on their next steps.
On a typical shift, you will:
Supervise young adults residing in the overnight shelter while maintaining a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment.
Complete resident intake, screening, orientation, and required documentation.
Respond to crisis situations, shelter phone calls, and walk-in inquiries with professionalism and compassion.
Administer medications in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
Help young adults prepare for the day by ensuring they have breakfast and are ready for work, school, appointments, or other scheduled activities.
Encourage accountability, healthy boundaries, and positive life skills.
Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the shelter.
Participate in staff meetings and required training while supporting a collaborative team environment.

REQUIREMENTS To thrive as an On-Call Direct Care Staff member at The Coffee Oasis, candidates should demonstrate alignment with our mission and possess the necessary skills to provide compassionate, trauma-informed care.
Commitment to The Coffee Oasis mission, vision, and core values.
At least 21 years of age.
High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
At least one year of experience working with marginalized populations.
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet applications.
Valid driver's license and proof of personal automobile insurance.
Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).Ability to pass a DCYF background check.
Completion of Bloodborne Pathogen training.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSAbility to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the shelter during shifts.
Ability to use hands and fingers to operate computers, complete documentation, and perform daily tasks.
Ability to reach, bend, and perform routine shelter responsibilities.
Ability to communicate clearly with young adults, staff, and emergency responders.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Visual acuity, including close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus while monitoring the environment and completing documentation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed at The Coffee Oasis Overnight Shelter, which serves young adults experiencing housing instability. This position requires frequent interaction with residents in a trauma-informed residential setting where crisis intervention, teamwork, and adaptability are essential.
