Position Title: Childcare Worker

Reports To: Child Development Center Director

Provide supervision to children in the childcare program at assigned site.

• High School diploma or equivalent OR enrolled in high school level career and technical education program; meet the requirements of a caregiver as described in Minimum Standards under the guidelines set forth by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) [section 744 or 746].
• Any applicant for paraprofessional jobs who is recommended for hire in Brenham ISD and hasn't obtained a minimum of 48 college hours will have to pass a paraprofessional assessment exam which consists of reading, writing, and mathematics.

• Knowledge of all district, campus, and Child Development Center operating procedures and guidelines.
• Knowledge of DFPS Minimum Standards [section 744 or 746 as designated on-site license].
• Skill in leading group curriculum or enrichment activities.
• Skill in communicating and collaborating effectively with others and working in a team-based environment.
• Skill in working with computer tools, including but not limited to: email, internet, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, etc.

• Coordinate with Child Development Center Site Director in order to meet the needs of students.
• Meet regularly with designated supervisor to discuss areas of success and improvement.
• Proactively manage student behaviors as they arise.
• Attend at least 15 hours of staff development training annually.
• Demonstrate competency, good judgement, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities.
• Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience.
• Be aware and knowledgeable about the children assigned to your supervision.
• Supervise children at all times using appropriate visual and/or auditory awareness and physical proximity.
• Ensure that children maintain proper, safe behavior.
• Interact with children in a positive manner.
• Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
• Know and comply with the Educator Code of Conduct & all policies, procedures, laws and State/Federal regulations, and Child Development Center policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The childcare worker will directly supervise children enrolled in the Child Development Center.

Mental Demands:

• Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands:

• Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing; reaching; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible; occasional district-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus; frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); must be able to lift and/or carry 30 lbs independently;
  
  exposure to the sun, heat, cold and inclement weather; exposure to noise.
